“…We have recently proposed a new concept for material design based on an "element-block" which is a minimum functional unit containing heteroatoms. 1,2 Creation of a wide variety of materials with unique functions originating from heteroatoms can be expected by the connection and assembly even with the single type of element-blocks and resulting element-block polymers are promised to show not only superior properties to those of conventional organic materials but also diverse functions originating from the combination with element-blocks. Because of positive effects of boron complexation as mentioned above, we have also explored luminescent boron element-blocks and found unique optical and electronic properties from conjugated polymers consisting of boron element-blocks.…”

“…Due to their unique properties such as aw ell-definedh ighly symmetric nanostructure and thermal stability, POSS molecules (POSS = polyhedralo ligomeric silsesquioxane)h ave been widely used as versatile buildingb locks for the construction of hybrid materials. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] In this connection, they have been extensively investigated, especially in materialc hemistry. [9][10][11][12] Recently,t he synthesis of functionalizeds ilsesquioxanes cages( SQs) containing other heteroatomsa nd functional groupsh as been strongly developed by many scientists.…”
