Controllability and invariance of monotone systems for robust ventilation automation in buildings

Abstract: International audienceThe problem considered is the temperature control in a building equipped with UnderFloor Air Distribution (UFAD). Its 0-D model is derived from the energy and mass conservation in each room, and also presents discrete components to describe the disturbances from heat sources and doors opening. Using the monotonicity of this model, we can characterize two concepts of robust control, the Robust Controllability and the Robust Controlled Invariance introduced in this paper, and determine thei… Show more

“…When the state space is of dimension 2, we can easily obtain a graphical representation of the subspaces C and W, which facilitates the choice of the target interval [14]. In our case, such a graphical representation is more complicated to obtain due to the 4 dimensions.…”

“…The system considered is based on a 4-room small-scale experimental building equipped with UFAD sketched in Figure 2. A model of the temperature variations in each room is derived from the energy and mass conservation equations in the room [2]. The obtained model is an ordinary differential equation involving the temperature of each room (the state), the ventilation from the underfloor (control input in each room) and continuous and discrete disturbances (outside temperature, door opening, .…”

“…These results are in the spirit of [8,19], where the authors considered the problem of computing reachability sets of a monotone system. Some parallels can be also drawn with [15,5], where feedback controllers for monotone systems were proposed.…”
