The majority of processes in chemical industry is nonlinear. However we often take advantage of linear approximation and analysis as the useful simplification. Nonetheless, one has to remember that the reality is often complex, nonlinear and full of unknown unknowns. One of the forgotten aspects in control engineering is connected with the symmetricity. Asymmetric properties appear, when the process or instrumentation introduces nonlinearities. Control systems are then exposed to the asymmetrical behavior and should properly react, while their performance measures have to take them into account. This paper proposes robust control performance indexes in form of the M-estimator using logistic ψ function denoted σ H and α-stable distribution scale factor γ. Additionally, their application procedure in industrial chemical engineering environment is proposed. The approach is illustrated with an example of the pH neutralization process. Przejawia się to rosnącą popularnością zaawansowanych algorytmów regulacji, takich jak sterowanie predykcyjne [22], jednak jego stosowalność ma swoje praktyczne ograniczenia [19] i najczęściej stosowanym rozwiązaniem pozostaje występujący w różnych formach regulator PID [12]. Regulacja z wykorzystaniem tego algorytmu ma wiele zalet, które przyczyniły się do jego popularności w przemyśle. Regulatory tego rodzaju nie wymagają modelu obiektu do działania, nie wymagają dużego nakładu obliczeń ze strony sterowników, a często mimo swojej prostoty zapewniają w zupełności wystarczającą dokładność i szybkość regulacji [11].W celu zapewnienia poprawnego działania układu regulacji, nastawy (parametry) regulatora PID powinny zostać odpowiednio dobrane pod kątem właściwości obiektu sterowania. Poprawne dostrojenie poprawia jakość produktu, ogranicza koszty eksploatacji, a także podnosi bezpieczeństwo obiektu.Trafny dobór nastaw regulatora ma istotny wpływ na wiele aspektów procesu, ale przede wszystkim prowadzi do zwiększenia zysków i ograniczenia kosztów, co powinno być wystarczającym argumentem za tym, że jest to istotny problem, który nie powinien być lekceważony [5,13]. W literaturze temat ten rozpatrywany jest od wielu lat. Pierwsze raportowane prace pojawiają się w latach 60. wraz z ocenami pracy układów sterowania w papiernictwie dokonanymi przez Åströma [1]. Badania były kontynuowane w kolejnych dziesięcioleciach [23,26]. Znaczne przyspieszenie nastąpiło w 1989 r. wraz z pracami Harrisa [9] na temat metod minimalno-wariacyjnych. Obecne rozwiązania pozwalają na zastosowanie dla różnych przypadków oraz zjawisk, jak na przykład nieliniowości [10], układów wielkiej skali [14], regulacji predykcyjnej [16], systemów wielowymiarowych [27], uwzględniając wpływ tarcia w urządzeniach wykonawczych [4], zjawiska oscylacji [20] i wiele innych [8]. Owe badania znalazły również przełożenie komercyjne, jako że istnieje wiele rozwiązań informatycznych automatyzujących proces [3]. Ponieważ opracowano wiele różnych wskaźników, można wydzielić kilka grup podejść [8, 11, 21]: − rozwiązania w dziedzinie czasu wykorzystujące odpowiedź skokową: uchyb ustalony, przeregulowanie, czas regulacji, dojścia, osiągnięcia maksimum, wskaźniki: Area Index, Output Index, R-index, Idle Index, − wskaźniki bazujące na przebiegach czasowych zmiennych biorących udział w sterowaniu (sygnał sterujący, uchyb regulacji, wyjście procesu), najczęściej w postaciach całkowych: średni błąd kwadratowy MSE (Mean Square Error), średnia całka z modułu IAE (Integral of Absolute Error), ale i innych jak wskaźnik amplitudowy AMP (Amplitude Index), − miary statystyczne: odchylenie standardowe, wariancja, skośność, kurtoza, współczynniki skali, kształtu, statyst...

This paper presents novel approach to the task of control performance assessment. Proposed approach does not require any a priori knowledge on process model and uses control error time series data using nonlinear dynamical fractal persistence measures. Notion of the rescaled range R/S plots with estimation of Hurst exponent is applied. Crossover phenomenon is observed in data being investigated and discussed. Paper starts with industrial engineering rationale. Review of the control error histogram is followed by statistical analysis of probabilistic distribution functions (PDFs). Lévy α-stable PDF parameters seem to be best fitted. They directly lead to the fractal analysis using Hurst exponents and R/S plot crossover points. The evaluation aims at performance of the generalized predictive control (GPC) and discusses freshly introduced loop performance quality sensitivity against design parameters of the GPC controller.Keywords Control performance assessment · GPC · Fractal nonlinear analysis · Control error nonlinear dynamics · Rescaled range plot · Hurst exponent · Crossover
