Control of the duration of picosecond infrared pulses in semiconductors with variable dispersion

Abstract: A pedagogic four-stroke cycle model for actual automotive heat engines is presented. The model considers a quite realistic picture of both the intake and exhaust processes, so that normal, throttled and supercharged ways of performance can be explicitly analysed. Irreversibilities are considered as global losses lumped in a friction-like term with a force linear in the piston velocity.
