Abstract:A pedagogic four-stroke cycle model for actual automotive heat engines is presented. The model considers a quite realistic picture of both the intake and exhaust processes, so that normal, throttled and supercharged ways of performance can be explicitly analysed. Irreversibilities are considered as global losses lumped in a friction-like term with a force linear in the piston velocity. Calculated net efficiency and net power output show agreement with measured values and with the characteristic power-versus-ef… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
