Control of Lantana in non-cropped area and in tea plantation

Abstract: Certain herbicides were evaluated against Lantana in noncrop land and tea plantation by application in different months either on freshly cut stumps or on its 1 month old regrowth. Count of dead bushes of Lantana at 1 year after treatment showed that treatments on cut stumps were more effective than those applied on regrowth. 2,4-D Na:diesel in the proportion 1 : 4 applied on freshly cut stumps provided the highest mortality of Lantana. Amongst foliar treatments on regrowth, glyphosate 0× 4% alone or tank-mixe… Show more

“…b Means followed by similar letters do not differ at P 5 0.05 level of significance. (Graaff 1986;Singh et al 1997), but, at the rates tested in this trial, the low level of control was expected. For experiments conducted in 2009, two locations were used, and no treatment by location interaction was observed, so data were pooled across locations.…”

“…It is important to follow a broadcast application with a spot-treatment of herbicides to remove any plants that escape treatment. Because many foliar herbicides used for spottreatment have been shown to be inconsistent (Graaff 1986;Singh et al 1997;Toth and Smith 1984), we attempted to determine whether alternative application techniques could be effective. To do this, experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of herbicides diluted in oil carrier and applied directly to largeleaf lantana stems, or freshly cut stem surfaces.…”

“…The susceptible tea bushes showed loss of crop for one to two pluckings. Glyphosate was also found effective in controlling brush weeds like L. camara-a troublesome weed in tea plantations in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, India [84].…”
