Control of different weeds through various weed control methods for improving growth and yield of hybrid maize Pioneer-1543

Abstract: This study was conducted, the effects of various weed control methods to suppress the growth and development of weeds for enhancing growth and yield of maize, at the experimental area of Agronomy section, Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam, during winter season 2011-12. The experiment was comprised of five treatments viz; T1= Weedy check, T2= Hand hoeing, T3= Mechanical, T4= Cultural and T5= Chemical weed control in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. Different weed species we… Show more

“…Weed control methods include many strategies, such as selecting seeds, adopting modern agricultural methods, and using appropriate and effective herbicides. The use of hand hoeing in weed control has shown to be the most effective method as well as reducing the harmful effect of herbicide use [19,20]. The use of the herbicides had an effective effect on annual and perennial weeds, including broad and narrow leaves [21].…”

“…The choice of a weed control method depends on many factors such as effectiveness, availability, cost, and risks associated with use [22]. Hand hoeing weed is the most effective and safe method of weed control [23]. Modern techniques such as remote sensing programs can be used to control and monitor the growth of weeds for precision management of weeds and to make maps for the distribution of weeds to reduce the excessive use of herbicide that results in severe environmental damage [24].…”

“…Weed control methods include many strategies as seeds selection, adopting modern agriculture methods, and using appropriate and effective herbicides. The use of the hand hoeing weed control method has shown that it is the most effective method in addition to, reducing the harmful effect of using herbicides (22). Adeux (4), considered weeds are harmful but, not all weeds.…”
