Control of Connectivity of Ni Electrode with Heating Rates During Sintering and Electrical Properties in BaTiO3Based Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors

Abstract: BaTiO 3 based multilayer ceramic capacitors with Ni electrodes can be explained as 2-2 composites with different thermal expansion coefficient and sintering behaviors. To achieve the high capacitance and reliability of MLCCs, a homogenous Ni electrode configuration with high connectivity is required. We controlled the heating rates during sintering to achieve densification by suppressing grain growth. Experimental results revealed that a large heating rate gave high connectivity of Ni electrode, high capacitan… Show more

“…So obviously there was a need to assess the conductivity of Ni foils after a real sintering process. Based on the other studies on sintering Ni particles [47][48][49][50], the heating schedule of 1020 °C for 4 min was selected, and then it was confirmed that Ni particles could be successfully sintered with it. This heat treatment would be used as a criterion to evaluate the merit of the ALD coatings to preserve Ni conductivity during the sintering of Ni particles.…”

“…During milling, some inhomogeneous strain may be produced because of the generation of defects in crystalline solids and such defects can influence the powders, properties [9][10][11][12]. Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) is one of the technologically important electroceramics in recent years because of a wide variety of probable application for in electronic industries such as for high-capacitance multi-layer ceramic capacitors [13][14][15]. In recent years, size effect on the dielectric properties of BaTiO 3 (BT) ceramics has grown in importance because of the miniaturisation of electronics devices [16][17][18].…”

“…The nickel and BaTiO 3 multilayers, and especially the Ni electrode itself, have been studied in detail. As mentioned above, one common practice is to reduce the amount of oxygen vacancies by post-reoxidation process.…”
