Control of cascaded H-bridge active rectifier providing active voltage balancing

Abstract: This paper deals with topology of indirect frequency converter for new mining machine drive fed directly by 6kV ac power grid. The proposed topology is composed of input cascaded H-bridge active rectifier and output cascaded Hbridge inverter. The main attention is paid to control of input cascade H-bridge active rectifier especially to voltage balancing of the individual power cells (H bridge). The proposed control uses conventional PWM with shifted carriers and voltage balancing is solved separately by contro… Show more

“…This method is well described in [16]. The voltage balancing is important during fast transient and is possible used some of these method [11], [17], [18]. The catenary current (icat) is in phase with voltage (ucat) as a shown in Figure 4.…”

“…For better understanding of the proposed technology, it is necessary to make a comparison over classic multilevel converter topologies. In order to achieve four-quadrant AC-DC-AC conversion, NPC, FC, and CHB are arranged in a back-to-back (B2B) scheme [23]. As a matter of convenience, the proposed topology is abbreviated as CMC.…”
