Control of a dual-loop exhaust gas recirculation system for a turbocharged Diesel engine

Abstract: Dual-loop exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) with variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) is an effective technique to simultaneously control intake manifold conditions (pressure, temperature, and burned gas mass fraction) in Diesel engines. To address the control problem for this highly coupled and complicatedly dynamic multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system, this paper proposed a control method with decoupled-feedforward loop. Through investigating the dynamics of airpath loop system, a linear-quadratic regulator … Show more

“…With a variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) (as shown in Figure 1), a dual-loop exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system 68 has been extensively focused on in recent years. It provides a flexible and also complex control architecture which has been commonly utilized in modern engines to achieve the desired intake manifold conditions and also the in-cylinder conditions.…”
