“…Th e Mavrovo National Park has a rich bryophyte fl ora due to the geological diversity, high altitudinal range, and climatic variation. Comparing its bryophyte diversity with some other investigated areas nearby in the Republic of Macedonia and in South Serbia, the number of recorded 229 bryophyte taxa is the same as the number of recorded taxa in the Pelister National Park (Republic of Macedonia) (Papp and Erzberger 2012) or in the Kopaonik National Park (Serbia) (Papp et al 2004) and more than in Pešter plateau (Serbia) (Papp et al 2014) or at Vlasina lake and its surroundings (Serbia) . However, more bryophyte taxa (277) were collected in the Golija Biosphere Reserve (Serbia) (Papp and Erzberger 2005).…”

“…This probably needs to be amended, since we collected this species in a great number of places in these countries (Papp et al 2004;2006Papp & Erzberger 2005, 2007a, b, 2009Papp & Sabovljević 2001 noteS. This is a boreal montane element (Düll 1984) known from almost all SE European countries except Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia and the European part of Turkey (Sabovljević et al 2008).…”

“…is a sub-Mediterranean, sub-Atlantic, montane element (Düll 1985) occurring on shaded siliceous or calcareous rocks (Ahrens 2001, Cortini Pedrotti 2006. It is red-listed in many Central European countries (Hodgetts 2015), but probably it is not so rare in SE Europe evidenced even by our many recent collections from Serbia: Golija Biosphere Reserve, Suva Mts, Pešter plateau (Papp and Erzberger 2005, 2009, Papp et al 2014c, from Montenegro: Lovćen, Durmitor, Bjelasica Mts (Papp and Erzberger 2007a, 2010, Papp et al 2013b, from Bulgaria, Strandzha Mts (Papp et al 2011b), from Albania , from the Republic of Macedonia, Mavrovo Mts (Papp et al 2016b). It was also reported from the neighbouring Mt Voras in Greece (Papp et al 2011a).…”
