Contributions of Butlerov to the development of structural theory

Abstract: Using the basic theory enunciated by Kekule and Couper in 1958, Alexander Mikhailovich Butlerov was able to establish the principles upon which organic chemistry made its greatest advances.

“…Many studies have reported that learners consider the structural theory complex and abstract due to understanding macroscopic observations based on the microscopic world of molecules. These students’ difficulties have motivated the educators to develop innovative teaching approaches like game-based learning tools to help them overcome their challenges in learning topics related to the structural theory of organic compounds. …”

“…In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, significant discoveries about the nature of atoms placed theories of molecular structure and bonding on a more secure foundation, which provided the conceptual basis for the structural theory of matter by suggesting that substances are defined by a specific arrangement of atoms. …”
