Contribution to the knowledge of the oribatid mite genus Licnodamaeus Grandjean, 1931 and synonymy of Licnodamaeolus Covarrubias, 1998 (Acari, Oribatida, Licnodamaeidae)

Abstract: Two new oribatid mite species of the genus Licnodamaeus (Oribatida, Licnodamaeidae) are described based on adult material collected from a termite nest in South Africa. Licnodamaeus navalhillensis sp. nov. is similar to L. travei (Covarrubias, 1998) comb. nov., but differs by the clavate bothridial setae. Licnodamaeus sacculatus sp. nov. is similar to L. asetosus (Ermilov & Hugo-Coetzee, 2012) comb. nov., but differs by the unilaterally dilated bothridial setae, four pairs of notogastral setae, tridactylou… Show more

This paper aims to describe and illustrate the new species, update generic diagnosis, give an identification key to known species of the genus, and discuss the relationship of eremellid genera Eremella with Archeremella Balogh and Mahunka, 1974, Licnocepheus Woolley, 1969, Triteremella Kunst, 1971and Afreremella Mahunka, 1973 This work is part of our continuing study of oribatid mites inhabiting termite nests of the world (e.g., Ermilov et al 2017a, b;Bayartogtokh et al 2018), and oribatid mite fauna of Brazil (e.g., Ermilov et al 2014Ermilov & Tolstikov 2015).…”

“…This work, being a part of our study of the oribatid mite fauna (Acari, Oribatida) of South Africa (e.g., Ermilov et al 2017Ermilov et al , 2018Bayartogtokh et al 2018;Niedbała et al 2019), is based on material collected from the soil in the Franklin Game Reserve during an expedition conducted in October 2018. In the course of a taxonomic identification, we found one new species belonging to the genus Hypozetes Balogh, 1959 (Tegoribatidae).…”
