“…Radical surgery decreased the possibility of recurrence and cancer-specific mortality 23 , and especially for severe CKD patients there’s no worry about the preservation of renal function. Even in unilateral UTUC patients, a prophylactic contralateral nephroureterectomy was recommended for uremic patients or renal transplant recipients 24 25 . Oncologic control and improved survival should remain the dominant therapeutic goals.…”

“…Our results showed a high proportion of aristolochic acid exposure (60.4%) and a female predominance (91.7%), which is similar to a previous report of UTUC in Chinese renal transplant recipients. 5,11 Possible explanations for this phenomenon include frequent use of Chinese herbs among women and female susceptibility to aristolochic acid-related renal damage. The most common manifestations of these patients included hydronephrosis with or without positive lesions (70.2%), gross hematuria (50%), and flank pain (29.2%).…”

“…Patients who underwent bilateral RNU within 3 months were included in the SBRNU group; or else, they were included in the unilateral radical nephroureterectomy (URNU) group. 5 The detailed surgical method has been described in previous studies. 5,9 Transurethral resection of the bladder tumor was performed in patients with concomitant superficial bladder cancers.…”

“…Surgical treatment is the first choice for UC and prophylactic bilateral nephroureterectomy is recommended when UTUC is suspected. Our previous study demonstrated that, even without any imaging abnormalities, UC morbidity in the contralateral upper tract was significantly higher (15). Furthermore, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor-based and calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-free regimens are recommended, given that several studies demonstrated that the risk of developing de novo malignancies was significantly higher in a group of patients receiving CNI-based immunosuppression compared with a group receiving mTOR inhibitors (16).…”
