Continuous, High Efficiency Defrosting of Air-to-Air Heat Pumps

Abstract: This study aims to realize continuous, high efficiency defrosting of air-to-air heat pumps using the effect of outdoor warm air recycling, trying to improve the coefficient of performance (COP) and total heat capacity of traditional defrosting methods like hot bypass and Joule heating. The proposed patented method recovers heat from the air change system by mixing the warm discarded air with the incoming air of the external heat exchanger. The fan of the external unit sucks the indoor air with the depression o… Show more

“…Manufacturing costs, integral to the practical application of designs, were not evaluated for fins incorporating either LVGs or louvered fins. The use of longitudinal vortex generators can be explored in other fields as in photovoltaics systems cooling with air [16], in wind energy harvesting by aeroelastic excitation [17], for thermal energy storage systems [18], and for air pumps to enhance the flow in the mixing devices [19].…”

“…In addition, the thermal power units that integrate the energy storage can significantly increase the reserve control capacity of ±2.8%. Piancastelli [4] proposed a patented method to recover heat is obtained from the burned flue gas by exchanging heat with the inlet air of an external heat exchanger. The ventilation system of the unit sends fresh air through the extraction fan.…”

“…New technologies are being developed to address the high heat flux density generated during the operation of power electronic devices. Several cooling methods, including forced air cooling [1], oil cooling, water cooling [2], and evaporative cooling, are employed to tackle this issue [3]. By using latent heat, the evaporative cooling technology [4] has the advantages of high heat exchange efficiency, good temperature stability and high insulation.…”
