Continuous Casting of Cylindrical Ingots

Abstract: The Heat Balance Integral Method is applied to solve for the continuous casting of cylindrical ingots. Unlike previously developed integral solutions the present analysis includes the effect of axial conduction. Comparison with the solution derived by Veynick (which neglects axial conduction) shows that, for small Peclet numbers, the discrepancy between the results can be quite appreciable.
