Contexts of Knowing

Abstract: Contexts of knowing are differentiated into four types through the constructs of "regulativeness" and "constitutiveness." The strength of these constructs is suggested through their tacit or explicit use in the social study of science. The value of the differentiation is noted through the consequences of the model for our understanding of scientific misconduct.
