Context modeling based on feature models expressed as views on ontologies via mappings

Abstract: This paper presents an approach for context modeling in complex self adapted systems consisting of many independent context-aware applications. The contextual information used for adaptation of all system applications is described by an ontology treated as a global context model. A local context model tailored to the specific needs of a particular application is defined as a view over the global context in the form of a feature model. Feature models and their configurations derived from the g… Show more

“…In [33], FMs are enriched with contextual information but, differently from our case, their connection with the features is given using some external rules or constraints. In [34], the contextual information used to model adaptation of applications is described by an ontology representing a global context model. Moreover, local context models tailored to the specific needs of a particular application are defined by the authors as a view over the global context in the form of a feature model.…”

“…In another case study [50], the OWL language is used to represent the context model of a smart hotel. As an another example in [51], the global context which is represented with an ontology is mapped to the feature model which represents the variability of the system. Using this mapping, a local context of each variant of system is found based on the features in that con¯guration.…”

“…Other works which focus on modeling context-aware SPLs exist. For instance, in [14] context-awareness is captured by providing a second FM while in [25] ontologies are used instead to model the context. Unfortunately, these works just present these models without discussing their analysis.…”
