Context-awareness in Battlefield using Ubiquitous Computing: Network Centric Warfare

Abstract: In the paper, we describe the design and implementation of middleware for NCW, which provides automatic military operation services based on the inferred battlefield contexts using ubiquitous computing. Middleware for NCW is composed of two layers which support automatic military operations by providing a decision support system using context-awareness service in ubiquitous computing for various military applications. For the traditional Platform Centric Warfare model, we have developed middleware consists of … Show more

“…This is important for information interoperability in NCW environments because it reduces the risk of integrating disparate sensors and systems. While some approaches implement custom middleware for sensor networks in NCW environments [36], this should not be necessary when widely accepted high performance middleware standards like RT-CORBA and DDS exist. Therefore, investigating information interoperability between mobile devices and high value ADF platforms and systems using existing high performance middleware technologies is an important research problem.…”
