The Internet of Things (IoT) continues to expand undeniably fast to reach billions of connected heterogeneous devices. This is changing the way systems are built: new applications integrating software and physical devices are emerging in different domains, such as health, smart building, and smart cities. This brings opportunities to enable new added value services. Nevertheless, building and managing such highly dynamic and heterogeneous infrastructures built upon a multitude of mobile and resource-limited devices is challenging. In this paper, we propose a semantic based autonomic management approach for service oriented IoT systems. The aim is to support building and managing highly dynamic new value added IoT services. The proposed approach relies on a semantic based model to characterize the system properties and then enables semantic reasoning, and graph grammars to enable its management and evolution. A use case is proposed to show the related features of the proposed approach and an evaluation study is presented.

With an estimated number of more than 15 billion, objects, the management of architectures for the Internet of Things is a veritable challenge. The inherent mobility (in terms of devices and users) of the IoT means that the architecture has to be resilient to appearance and disappearance of devices. In this paper, we address the problem of autonomic management of IoT architecture by the means of ontologies. The problem we address is that given a dynamic system which is built upon a multitude of entities abstracted as services and characterized by their inputs and outputs, evolving targets that aim to provide services in terms of data or in terms of control, our goal is to enable autonomic management of these kinds of systems to cope with changes and evolutions so that the specified targets are fulfilled throughout the execution according to the specifics and dynamic needs of the system's users. We propose an innovative architecture that relies on ontologies to enable context-aware application to self-compose on demand. This architecture is being deployed to two smart campuses in two universities from Toulouse, France and Wollongong, Australia.

Distributed systems provide smart functionality to everyday objects with the help of wireless sensors using the internet. Since the last decade, the industry is struggling to develop efficient and intelligent protocols to integrate a huge number of smart objects in distributed computing environments. However, the main challenge for smart and distributed system designers lies in the integration of a large number of heterogeneous components for faster, cheaper, and more efficient functionalities. To deal with this issue, practitioners are using edge computing along with server and desktop technology for the development of smart applications by using Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) where every smart object offers its functionality as a service, enabling other objects to interact with them dynamically. In order to make such a system, researchers have considered context-awareness and Quality of Service (QoS) attributes of device services. However, context modeling is a complicated task since it could include everything around the applications. Moreover, it is also important to consider non-functional interactions that may have an impact on the behavior of the complete system. In this regard, various research dimensions are explored. However, rich context-aware modeling, QoS, user priorities, grouping, and value type direction along with uncertainty are not considered properly while modeling of incomplete or partial domain knowledge during ontology engineering, resulting in low accuracy of results. In this paper, we present a semantic and logic-based formal framework (hybrid) to find the best service among many candidate services by considering the limitations of existing frameworks. Experimental results of the proposed framework show the improvement of the discovered results.
