Context aware routing management architecture for airborne networks

Abstract: Military environments require highly dynamic mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) to meet operational mission requirements. Decision makers rely on the timely delivery of critical battlefield information to make informed determinations quickly and as accurately as possible. However, traditional MANET routing protocols do not provide quality of service (QoS). Furthermore, they do not implement active controls to minimise the impact of network congestion. This study proposes the use of the information embedded in an … Show more

“…In MANET, intensive streaming traffic can result in more packet loss, longer delay, and QoS-related performance degradation caused by congestion. Congestion among various problems of communication is a measurement method that affects network performance [1], [2], [4]. Congestion in node mainly causes because of buffer overflow, link interference or collision.…”

“…Technological advancements in airborne computer network systems have provided these systems with increased processing power, memory, and the ability to adapt to a multitude of purposes, as well as to communicate with any other device, whether built-in or not. If an embedded system's failure might result in the loss of life, it is termed safety-critical [1][2][3]. A UAV is a vital embedded system application.…”

“…The SMART-hop setup request network was proposed, which is a specialized network that replaces long and overlapping broadcast wires with shorter wires and switches [11]. The article [12] proposed the use of the information embedded in an air tasking order during the planning phase of military missions to optimize the network performance. In article [13], the authors addressed the two-level dynamic scheme for improving the energy-efficient resource allocation and intercell-interference management of the heterogeneous networks.…”
