Context-aware negotiation, reputation and priority traffic light management protocols for VANET-based smart cities

Abstract: The traditional transportation system is based on a fixed-timed strategy to control the traffic congestion on urban roads. However, the increase of vehicle density in a smart city implies the variation and the conflict on the demand pattern of the drivers. The smart city development requires to create an efficient control plan for an intelligent traffic management system. In this paper, we aim to reduce the congestion at signalized intersections, and satisfy the needs of drivers according to their degree of di… Show more

“…Some researchers suggest a context-aware Secure Traffic Control Model to manage the competing traffic flows at a given road intersection using secure messages with real-time traffic information [34]. Creating an effective control plan for an intelligent traffic management system is important for the growth of smart cities [35]. It reduces traffic congestion at signalized intersections while still satisfying drivers' expectations according to their level of displacement urgency.…”

“…The study [6] proposed three synchronization protocols to improve traffic light control at signalized intersections. When the negotiating vehicles arrive, the ICANP (intelligent context-aware negotiation protocol) first stops the green timer for the regular vehicle phases so that the negotiating vehicles can pass quickly through the indicated intersection.…”
