Context-aware apps with the Zonezz platform

Abstract: Current smart phones can easily detect the geographic location, but very often applications are more interested in the meaning of the location for the user. In this paper we present the Zonezz platform that identifies meaningful locations such as 'home' or 'work'. It provides an easy to understand context model and fully runs on a mobile device without the need for a central service. Other apps can use this platform to create context-awareness. We show the benefits of this platform with the help of a contextaw… Show more

“…First we apply the pairwise interchange on the initial solution, similarly to the logic of the algorithm in [6]. Then, we add an equal number of solutions to the pool of solutions found via the first approach, by randomly producing exactly one more solution for each solution of that 13 pool. This is done by using each solution of the pool as a seed in order to perform one more pairwise interchange at random.…”

“…Under the philosophy that smartphones should adapt to their owners, a number of creative personalized applications were developed, e.g., [3,5,9,12,17]. In particular, Raento et al raised the concept of context-aware mobile applications, and developed several customizable applications that replaced built-in ones of feature phones to help social interaction [9].…”

“…Yan et al employed a client-server architecture to aggregate user behavior and used collaborative filtering to compute the similarity among apps to make offline personalized recommendations [17]. Roth et al presented a simple context model that can run on mobile devices, without the need for a central service, to alarm users when some predefined rules are triggered or to start some apps at some meaningful locations defined by the users [12]. However, there has been comparatively little research on online smartphone personalization based on individual usage patterns without user intervention.…”
