Rates of adopting the International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology (IDNT) are increasing; however, many hurdles persist. Low knowledge, motivation, and authority are often cited as reasons for nonimplementation of the IDNT. In a sample of motivated, knowledgeable, relatively empowered registered dietitians, no demographic characteristics and few individual level characteristics were associated with the IDNT use. Organizational and relationship factors predominated as predictors of IDNT use. Having colleagues who use the IDNT, expressing positive comments about the IDNT, and funding those who are committed to promoting the IDNT all increase the likelihood of IDNT use while time restrictions and organizational barriers limit the IDNT use.
