“…It is better for children to receive an adequate amount of calcium in their diets, as calcium has been found to reduce the intestinal absorption of lead (Campbell and Osterhoudt, 2000;Gulson et al, 2001). Children at 9 years, though, did not frequently take potential lead-contained food, they showed a great prone of touching activity and frequent hand-to- mouth behavior to bite and suck objects, and did not routinely wash hands before eating, which would bring about potential lead contamination (Li et al, 2011;Yan et al, 2013), all of these behaviors resulted in the 9-year-old children being at the highest risk of exposure to lead. Based on the questionnaire survey, it was found that children at 10 years had less food (staple food and vegetables) for one day, compared to other groups with different ages (P b 0.05).…”

“…While the well-known simple binary model allows the approximate contribution of two end-members (e.g. natural vs anthropogenic) to be calculated, more elaborated approaches such as the three-end-member model (Cheng et al, 2010;Li et al, 2011) have the potential to rank relevant anthropogenic Pb sources that further supports the development of strategies to reduce human health risks. However, it is well established that these models work satisfactorily only if the isotopic signatures of the end-members are significantly different (Etler et al, 2004;Monna et al, 1997).…”

“…Although coal combustion is referred to as an important source of Pb in certain areas, (DiazSomoano et al, 2009;Li et al, 2011) it does not seem to be predominant in Lisbon, even though some industries located north from Lisbon use coal combustion (Vieira et al, 2006). Hereupon, Pb isotope ratios of Spanish and Portuguese coals ) are included in this study (Table 2).…”
