Contactless Multi-Sensor Solution for E-Treatment of Musculoskeletal Disorders

Abstract: This research has been supported by the NOMADe project of the EU Interreg Program France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen under grant agreement 4.7.360. We thank our colleagues in the NOMADe project and in particular Simoneau Emilie, Leteneur Sébastien and Gillet Christophe of the Polytechnic University (Valenciennes) for the constructive discussions and valuable inputs leading to adequate design requirements for the multi-sensor solution. We also appreciate the guidance from supportive physiotherapist Renaat Monteyne in t… Show more

“…Naturally, in order to avoid any unsuitable use of this system [19], a thorough validation of the IMU system is required. The IMU system created in the NOMADe project has been verified through experiments in previous work [20,21], but only with low-resolution methods (photogrammetry) and without a gold standard reference comparison (e.g., VI-CON optoelectronic system) for human motion. In order to be accepted by clinicians and used as a rehabilitation tool, the IMU system needs to be validated in comparison to a gold standard.…”

“…Musculoskeletal complications are prevalent across the life course, and occur frequently with other non-communicable diseases in multimorbidity health states [1]- [3], about onethird to one-fifth of people suffer from musculoskeletal pain [4]. According to the statistics, the global burden of musculoskeletal diseases increases significantly between the years 2000 and 2015 [5], where over 50% of people aged 18 and above are affected by musculoskeletal diseases in the United States [6], and in China, musculoskeletal diseases are one of the three leading causes of disability [7].…”
