Contact Lens Sensor with Anti-jamming Capability and High Sensitivity for Intraocular Pressure Monitoring

Abstract: Contact lens sensors provide a noninvasive approach for intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring in patients with glaucoma. Accurate measurement of this imperceptible pressure variation requires highly sensitive sensors in the absence of simultaneously amplifying IOP signal and blinking-induced noise. However, current noise-reduction methods rely on external filter circuits, which thicken contact lenses and reduce signal quality. Here, we introduce a contact lens strain sensor with an anti-jamming ability by util… Show more

“…[68] To effectively reduce blinking-induced noise interference, many previous studies have attempted to reduce the surface coefficient of friction by attaching a lubricant to the contact lens surface. [69] However, this method is rather impractical due to the expensive costs, sophisticated production process, rapid drainage of lubricant, and ocular irritation. Ren et al (Figure 7) resolved the aforementioned issues by creating contact lens sensors with anti-jamming ability.…”

“…Ren et al (Figure 7) resolved the aforementioned issues by creating contact lens sensors with anti-jamming ability. [69] Inspired by fish skin, the researchers implemented a self-lubricating layer, made of HEMA/PDMS hybrid, into the sensor that can reduce the surface coefficient of friction. Consequently, this significantly enhances the sensor's ability to filter out noise interference and exhibits high sensitivity to IOP signals.…”
