“…Our findings are consistent with many previous demonstrations that soybean genotypes vary in constitutive resistance (e.g., Van Duyn et al 1971;Barney and Rock 1975;Kraemer and Rangappa et al 1988;Kraemer et al 1994). Our results for the constitutive resistance of particular varieties are largely consistent with previous ratings.…”

“…The soybean looper (SBL), Pseudoplusia includens (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae), and the Mexican bean beetle (MBB), Epilachna varivestis (Coleoptera:Coccinellidae), are insect pests of significance in certain soybean production areas of the USA. The constitutive resistance of soybean to SBL and MBB has been documented in feeding preference (Kogan, 1972a) and food intake and utilization studies (Kogan, 1972b;Kogan & Cope, 1974;Barney & Rock, 1975), that used relatively resistant as well as susceptible soybean plants (soybean cultivars or breeding lines). MBB is an oligophagous insect and its host range is restricted within the plant family Leguminosae (Turnipseed & Shepard, 1980).…”
