“…Considering that under certain locations such as wastewater treatment plants these antidepressants, excreted at effective concentrations after human consumption, coexist with pathogenic bacteria, the results obtained by Ding et al (2022) highlight an important blind spot in the warfare against antibiotics resistance. In fact, the sudden peak in depression cases caused by COVID-19 also had a great impact on the consumption of antidepressants, with data showing up to a 15-fold increase the presence in the environment, especially in wastewater treatment plants (Díaz-Camal et al, 2022).
