Consumers’ Acceptance of a Bio-circular Automotive Economy: Explanatory Model and Influence Factors

Abstract: Sustainability in the automotive sector and appropriate end-of-life (EOL) management options for car tyres are important and constitute global issues. There is currently an oversupply of EOL tyres and the potential of circular economy (CE) tyres and for bio-based (BB) tyres warrants further investigation. Likewise, BB and CE tyres might be an interesting approach to improve the overall sustainability of the tyre life cycle. Research on drivers for the acceptance of CE and BB tyres is currently missing. In 1989… Show more

“…Both groups appraise what they give for what they obtain (Milenović & Ratković, 2012, p. 34). In the automobile context, safety is the key characteristic of the product (Wurster & Schulze, 2020). The planning strategy represents the process of the improvement and application of an appropriate line of action regarding the direction that an enterprise should unconditionally follow so as to achieve its goal (Stojanović, 2019, p. 191).…”

“…One automotive systems component for EVs that has recently been investigated from the sustainability and sourcing through the value chain angle is tires, with some manufacturers now producing EV-specific ones, due to the often relatively higher weight of EVs compared to the equivalent Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). Given the current oversupply of End-of-Life tires (from ICEs in volume), the potential of CE tires and bio-based tires has been conceptually explored in the context of an acceptance model and labeling/marketing based on that [14].…”

“…From the perspective of EMF as well as some academic literature (e.g. Camacho-Otero et al, 2017;Wurster and Schulze, 2020), 'consumer acceptance' of, or 'buy in' to, new circular products and services are key (e.g. Hobson and Lynch 2016;Mylan et al, 2016).…”
