“…The level of participation for the person with a disability and the passivity of family members may vary significantly in other settings, such as acquired brain injury, where cognitive functioning is impaired. Crisp (1989) suggests that just as the term ‘case conference’ reflects the language of an outdated model of rehabilitation, perhaps the term ‘ family conference’ is also an anachronism in this setting and should be more appropriately named to more readily reflect its true aims and functions. Alternative terms such as ‘rehabilitation planning conferences’ could be considered.…”
