Background Squamate reptiles cohabiting with companion animals may represent a source of helminth infections, especially through predation by dogs and cats with an outdoor lifestyle. Methods In order to assess the role of reptiles as intermediate/paratenic hosts of trophically transmitted helminths, synanthropic reptiles (n = 245) captured from different ecological settings (i.e., households, dog shelters, urban, peri-urban and rural areas or natural parks) of southern Italy were examined for endoparasites. Parasitic cysts (i.e., larval forms of acanthocephalans, cestodes and nematodes) and free helminths (i.e., adult nematodes and digeneans) were morphologically and molecularly identified, and statistical analysis was carried out to evaluate the correlations between reptiles, infections, and ecological settings. Results Overall, 31% of reptiles were positive for at least one helminth, with Podarcis siculus (18.7%) and Tarentola mauritanica (8.1%) being the most frequently infected species. Among the parasites of medical interest, Joyeuxiella echinorhyncoides showed the highest prevalence (19.7%), followed by Diplopylidium acanthotetra (10.5%), Joyeuxiella pasqualei, Mesocestoides lineatus (5.6%) and Physaloptera sp. (3.9%). Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus was detected once. Podarcis siculus and T. mauritanica were associated with cestode infections. Conclusions The wide range of helminths detected here in reptiles living in sympatry with pets and the fact that many of these helminth species are parasitic and may infect companion animals (e.g., J. pasqualei, J. echinorhyncoides, D. acanthotetra, Physaloptera sp.) and humans (i.e., Macracanthorhynchushirudinaceus, Mesocestoideslineatus) indicate the potential health risk associated with pets preying on these small vertebrates. Our results indicate the need for complementary investigations of trophically transmitted parasites in dogs and cats living in sympatry with reptiles. Graphical Abstract

Providing the population with high-quality products is a priority intention of the government. North Kazakhstan and Akmola regions are the most promising in developing the country's dairy cattle breeding and milk processing. An assessment of the qualitative indicators of milk production and processing in these areas would allow us to assess the dynamics of the development of the country's dairy industry and identify the main problems, so research on this issue is relevant. The study aimed to analyze the qualitative indicators of milk production and processing at the enterprises of the North Kazakhstan and Akmola regions, the factors affecting the quality of dairy products, and the prospects for expanding the range of enterprises. In the study, an InfraXact infrared analyzer was used to determine the quality of haylage in the diet of goats and for goat milk - the CombiFoss FT + analyzer. Generally, the quality of milk on the goat farms "Zeren" and "Tamasha-2050" in terms of fat, protein, lactose, fatty acid composition of milk fat, and somatic cells meets the regulatory requirements. The specificity of the goat farm "Tamasha-2050" is the production of various hard and soft cheese types. Farm "Zeren" is focused on the production scale and a wide range of products (drinking milk, yogurt, kefir, and ice cream). It was concluded that there is a wide choice for the consumer of high-quality dairy products from goat milk in enterprises.

The aim of this paper is to investigate consumer behaviour in relation to the consumption of ice cream, sheep and goat milk and finally ice cream made from sheep and goat milk, as well as consumer attitudes towards ice cream made from sheep and goat milk. The survey was conducted on a sample of 366 younger respondents. The questionnaire consisted of 22 questions. Only 19 respondents have tried ice cream made from sheep/goat milk. The respondents who did not like ice cream made from sheep/goat milk listed the inappropriate taste, smell and consistency as reasons. Those who had not yet tried sheep/goat milk ice cream showed moderate willingness to consume such ice cream in the future. The respondents expressed a neutral attitude towards ice cream made from sheep/goat milk. The intrinsic characteristics of ice cream are more important than the extrinsic characteristics. The most important intrinsic characteristics of ice cream for the respondents were taste and quality, and the most important extrinsic characteristics were price-quality ratio and the price of ice cream. The results of this study provide valuable insights that can be used to increase the consumption of sheep/goat milk and sheep/goat milk-based ice cream.
