Constructors and innovation credits in green building projects

Abstract: PurposeAs green buildings have become more widely accepted, constructors (general contractors, construction managers and subcontractors) have become more involved and are playing an increasing role in the success of these projects. As a result, constructors need and want a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) projects, while exploring ways to provide a “value‐added” service to the projects. Past research has identified “Innovation in D… Show more

“…The indoor microclimate and comfort in high-rise timber buildings are still very little investigated. The location of the building and accessibility of public services was emphasized in previous studies, e.g., [14,30,32,34]. Brock Commons was ranked as best in the social sustainability dimension because of high fire resistance, convenient indoor microclimate, comfortable living conditions and good location.…”

“…Examples of CCSU problems and best practices from these projects were wide-ranging, including problems with new technologies (Bagsarian, 2001) and valve sizing (Parece et al , 1998), best practices such as simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) management (Schmidt, 2009) and detailed operational testing procedures (Vilbrandt et al , 2015). With respect to Construction Innovation: Information, Process, Management , four articles mention commissioning in light of construction sustainability (Kantola and Saari, 2014; Li et al , 2013; Nahmens and Reichel, 2013; Shari and Soebarto, 2014).…”
