Construction of an Integrated Map of Haliotis diversicolor Using Microsatellite Markers

Abstract: Small abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, is naturally distributed along the coastal waters of East Asia from Japan to the Philippines. It is an economically important maricultured species in southern China and Taiwan. Genetic linkage maps for small abalone were constructed using a total of 308 simple sequence repeat markers including 297 novel markers. Segregation data on 96 progeny were genotyped using a pseudo-testcross strategy. Sixteen linkage groups were identified in both female and male maps, consistent wi… Show more

“…For example, the genetic linkage maps for Pacific abalone (H. discus hannai) were constructed using 180 microsatellite DNA markers. And the first microsatellitebased linkage map for small abalone was constructed based on 308 simple sequence repeat (SSR) loci, including a novel set of 297 SSR markers (Zhan et al 2012), and should be a valuable resource for genetic mapping to increase linkage map resolution, and for integration of genetic linkage and physical maps (Somridhivej et al 2008;Ji et al 2012). Besides, a normalized expressed sequence tag (EST) library, including 7069 high-quality ESTs from the total body of small abalone was, analyzed (Jiang et al 2011).…”

“…Saccharina japonica is an important economic species which has been extensively cultivated in China, Japan and Korea . However, in China S. japonica suffered close breeding for generations that caused important issues such as loss of genetic variance, decreasing growth rate and massive mortality (Zhan et al, 2012). Recently, the genome of S. japonica has been sequenced , which would powerfully push the genetic improvement of the species.…”
