Construction of a crystalline 14-metal Zn–Nd rectangular nanocluster with a dual-emissive response towards metal ions

Abstract: A crystalline 14-metal Zn–Nd nanocluster was constructed, and it shows ligand-centered and lanthanide fluorescence response towards metal ions.

“…The cluster core of [Gd 30 Co 12 (OH) 56 (NO 3 ) 12 ] 52+ consists of six dicubane-like [Gd 5 Co 2 (μ 3 -OH) 8 ] 12+ units formed through two adjacent cubane-like [Gd 3 Co­(μ 3 -OH) 4 ] 7.5+ units sharing one Gd III vertex (Figure a). Each dicubane-like [Gd 5 Co 2 (μ 3 -OH) 8 ] 12+ unit connecting with four adjacent neighbors respectively through four NO 3 – anions in a μ 5 -η 2 :η 2 :η 3 mode observed in Ln 8 Zn 6 (Figure S4) and three neighbors through one μ 3 -OH – bridge forms a cluster core of [Gd 30 Co 12 (OH) 56 (NO 3 ) 12 ] 52+ (Figure b).
