Construction and Application of Biobased PDES Ionic Gels with a Soft–Hard Segment

Xiaoyu Li,
Mingkai Yan,
Xinyu Wu
et al.

Abstract: Ionic gels composed of bio-based precursors, such as itaconic acid (IA), are promising for flexible materials. However, IA, a bio-derived monomer for free radical polymerization, faces the challenge of spatial hindrance. Herein, we introduced a choline chloride (ChCl)–IA deep eutectic system to prepare poly deep eutectic solvents (PDESs) as the soft segment and acrylamide (AM) as the precursor of the polymer hard segment to form P(IA-co-AM) ionic gel, driven by hydrogen bonding. Molecular dynamics (MD) well c… Show more

“…Therefore, the tensile strength of the elastomer can be improved. 56,57 (2) AA is used both for the synthesis of PDES and as a polymerization monomer and then polymerized as a soft chain segment to increase the flexibility of the polymer chain. (3) The addition of DMA monomers for homopolymerization and copolymerization helps to improve the mechanical strength.…”

“…The eutectogels were prepared using the (j) Rough comparison of this work with previously reported tough eutectogels in terms of self-healing capability, ionic conductivity, tensile strength, tensile strain, and gauge factor of strain sensor. 19,37,38,[42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49] [Color figure can be viewed at wileyonlinelibrary.com] one-pot method of copolymerization of monomers and crosslinkers. A prescribed amount of MAA, AAm, PEGDA, and photoinitiator were dissolved in TEAC-EG DES by stirring at 80 C for 30 min.…”

“…The development of a safe and formaldehyde-free adhesive holds immense significance in safeguarding human health and the environment. The term “biobased bonding materials” refers to naturally occurring bonding materials produced by organisms in nature, the majority of which demonstrate excellent biocompatibility and low immunogenicity . The optimization of interfacial adhesion in the hydrogel is achieved through dynamic bond interactions, which are inspired by the surface attachment mechanisms observed in mussel-inspired adhesives.…”
