Constructing the Quality Measurement Model of Street Space and Its Application in the Old Town in Wuhan

Abstract: The quality of street space is the comprehensive suitability evaluation from the objective physical environments and the subjective pedestrian perception. Since the existing quality measurement models of street space do not consider both subjective and objective aspects, it is difficult for planners to accurately locate the low-quality streets that need to be regenerated. To solve this problem, this study proposes a new 5D+3S measurement model for street space quality evaluation. This model incorporates the wi… Show more

“…As pointed out in the study by [ 18 , 22 ], which investigated several accelerometer placements, including at the hip (belt), wrist, upper arm, ankle, and thigh of the test person, using numerous accelerometers aids in activity identification. Thus, as illustrated in Figure 2 , in this study, participants were advised to secure their mobile phones to their waistbands with designated holders.…”

“…Liu [54] highlighted the social characteristics of streets by integrating them into a single vitality index. In order to test the validity of the proposed model, Wan [55] conducted a comparative analysis of the results of public assessment, expert scoring, and model measurements to verify whether the measurements were objective and convincing.…”

“…To construct an evaluation system that more accurately reflects the characteristics of a living street, the study selected a variety of dimensional indicators based on the perspective of the residents. The evaluation system was developed after consulting Wan et al (2022) and other studies on spatial quality measurement [34].…”

“…Significant differences in the measurements of the indicators can skew the results. Due to the different tendencies and magnitudes of the evaluation indicators, the sample data must be normalized and dimensionless in order to facilitate indicator comparison and data calculation [34]. The method of calculation is as follows:…”
