Constructing pedestrian level of service based on the perspective of visual impairment person

Abstract: Comfortability level of pedestrian facilities is practically implied by the pedestrian level of service (i.e., PLOS), which defines the performance level of pedestrian facilities. The level is set by applying certain criteria, which may influence by the heterogeneity and the pedestrian behavior. On the other side, the growth attention is given to the inclusive pedestrian environment that pay a great consideration to the persons with disabilities (PWDs), including the visual impairment person (i.e., VIP). “…Regression techniques are also being used by Frazila et al [37], who formulate a methodology for pedestrian LOS from the point of view of visually impaired people, utilizing 30 interviews with visually impaired people, in order to identify the basic criteria that affect their perception of LOS, as well as the importance of each criterion. A recent research by Rodriguez-Valencia et al [18] utilizes data from 30 different infrastructures in Bogota, Colombia, to explore the importance of integrating users' perceptions in determining QOS.…”

“…Its role as the capital of the country and the central region of the economy and business makes Jakarta famous as a city with reasonably high mobility and traffic density in Indonesia. It has led to transport authorities and urban planners focusing on a road infrastructure design model that focuses on safe access for motorists only and forgetting that pedestrian facilities are the essential part of a travel chain and that pedestrians have the right to safety and comfort onroad use (Frazila, Zukhruf, Simorangkir, & Burhani, 2019). Some cities in developed countries have begun to make policies to strive for a good quality of life by improving pedestrian services to reduce significant air pollution, noise, and accident rates.…”

“…Many studies have described the running state, comfort, and security of pedestrians during walking as evaluation indexes for the service level of walking facilities [22][23][24][25]. At the same time, scholars have put forward a calculation method of pedestrian service level considering the comfort of walking facilities from the perspective of visual inconvenience person [26].…”

“…Since then, based on the obstacle model put forward by Botha [27,34,35], many studies have studied the classification and determination of the service level of shared-use paths. The concept of traffic conflict intensity has also been adopted to describe the service level of shared roads [26,[29][30][31]. On the macro level, Zohreh said, Shekari has discussed the challenges faced by the walking level of service and bicycle service level on shared-use paths and provided some development suggestions [32].…”
