Constructing Fireproof MXene-Based Cotton Fabric/Thermoplastic Polyurethane Hierarchical Composites via Encapsulation Strategy

Chenxin Nie,
Yongqian Shi,
Songqiong Jiang
et al.

Abstract: Promising cotton fabric composites are designed to be protected by flame retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites for the next-generation fire-proof suit. Herein, we successfully constructed flexible cotton/TPU hierarchical composites, where a comfortable cotton internal layer was obtained by multiple dip coating of titanium carbide (MXene) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP)/TPU composites served as external layers. The flame retardant and mechanical properties of its cotton/TPU hierarchical composi… Show more

“…In terms of smoke release (Figure c,d), the TSP data indicate that the TSP values of PP8 and PP9 are 0.77 and 0.45 m 2 , significantly lower than the TSP of PP2 (2.73 m 2 ). This suggests that the Ti 3 C 2 T x structure possesses remarkable condensed-phase flame retardancy, wherein its layered barrier effect and catalytic charring ability promote the trapping and fixation of carbon particles into a char layer . However, the smoke release from Ti 3 C 2 T x @PPD is slightly enhanced, because DA was used as the graft monomer to keep phosphorus in a lower oxidation state in the polyphosphazene structure, resulting in increased release of phosphorus-containing volatiles. , This shows that the PPD structure has certain gas-phase flame-retardant properties.…”
