Construct Reliability and Validity of the Shortened Version of the Information-Seeking Behavior Scale

Abstract: This study aimed to translate the information-seeking behavior scale from English to Thai, and to ascertain the construct reliability and validity of the scale. Data were collected from 664 undergraduate students in Thailand. The descriptive statistics were explored to see the extent to which various information sources are being used by undergraduate students. The researchers conducted Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) for the 33 Likert-type items. Results from EFA sugge… Show more

“…Cronbach α coefficients of .7-.9 and .5-.7 indicated high and moderate reliability, respectively [ 52 ]. A composite reliability of >0.7 indicated good reliability of the construct variables [ 53 ]. We examined the validity of construct and latent variables using convergent and discriminant validity.…”

“…The internal consistency reliability of the latent variables which were measured by more than 1 indicator (Supplier Selection and Procurement Performance) was measured by the composite reliability statistic. Composite reliability is estimated based on the factor loading analysis (Lerdpornkulrat et al, 2017). Composite reliability should be 0.7 or higher (Bagozzi & Yi, 1988;Tentama & Anindita, 2020).…”

“…Information-seeking behavior, an aspect of information literacy behavior which refers to the regulation activities of general information-seeking behavior, among undergraduates who are seeking information for their study assignment. Information-seeking behavior in this study focused on the self-regulation activities which took place when students performed their search activities and evaluated information on websites, and students' behavior when referring to information (Lerdpornkulrat, Poondej, & Koul, 2017;Timmers & Glas, 2010); and 4. Motivational goal orientation, which cognitively represents an individual's purpose, approach, and reasons to engage, perform, and persist in academic activities; the meaning they assign to an achievement situation; and their subsequent behaviors.…”

“…Information-seeking behavior scale. The information-seeking behavior scale was validated in a prior study (Lerdpornkulrat et al, 2017). We used a 4-point Likert-type scale with a score of 1 indicating "rarely or never" and 4 indicating "always."…”
