Constraints on the Physical Properties of SNe Ia from Photometry

Abstract: We present a photometric study of 17 Type Ia supernovae (SNe) based on multi-color (Bessell BV R C I C ) data taken at Piszkéstető mountain station of Konkoly Observatory, Hungary between 2016 and 2018. We analyze the light curves (LCs) using the publicly available LC-fitter SNooPy2 to derive distance and reddening information. The bolometric LCs are fit with a radiation-diffusion Arnett-model to get constraints on the physical parameters of the ejecta: the optical opacity, the ejected mass and the expansion v… Show more

“…Brown et al (2019) provide an extensive analysis of the light curve shape and color, which we summarize as indicating a host-galaxy extinction of 𝐴 𝑉 ≈ 0.45 ± 0.05 mag. This, along with the host's distance modulus 𝜇 = 32.34±0.097 mag (Könyves-Tóth et al 2020), suggests a peak intrinsic magnitude of 𝐵 ≈ −19.5±0.15 mag. We note also that Könyves-Tóth et al ( 2020) report a synthesized 56 Ni mass of 0.975 ± 0.083 M , the highest in their sample of 17 SNe Ia.…”

“…This is the case for the nearby microlensing event TCPJ05074264+2447555 43 (hereafter Kojima-1 44 ), which was serendipitously discovered during a nova search conducted by an amateur astronomer, Mr. T.Kojima. On 2017 October 31 UT, he reported an unknown transient event on an R=13.6 mag star toward the Taurus constellation, 45 and later, the microlensing nature of this event was confirmed by photometric and spectroscopic follow-up observations (Jayasinghe et al 2017;Konyves-Toth et al 2017;Maehara 2017;Sokolovsky 2017). Moreover, a planetary feature was detected near the peak of the event by the earliest photometric follow-up observations (Nucita et al 2017).…”
