Constraints on Sandstone-Type Uranium Deposits by the Tectonic Uplift and Denudation Process in the Eastern Junggar Basin, Northwest China: Evidence from Apatite Fission Track and Detrital Zircon U-Pb Ages

Abstract: The uplift and denudation history of the orogenic belt and the basin–mountain coupling process have directly or indirectly affected the generation, scale, and preservation of sandstone-type uranium deposits in the eastern Junggar Basin by controlling the uranium source, lithology, facies, hydrogeology, post-generation modification, and other mineralization conditions. Taking the eastern Junggar Basin as the research area, this study proposes the constraints on sandstone-type uranium deposits by the tectonic up… Show more

“…Fan delta deposits occur in the northwestern basin, while deltaic and aeolian dune deposits are present in the eastern basin (Figure 13d; Eberth et al., 2001; Vincent & Allen, 2001; Xu et al., 2022). In the late stage, the lakes expanded, and lacustrine and deltaic environments dominated the whole Junggar Basin (Figure 13e; Du et al., 2019; Li et al., 2017; Liu et al., 2022; Xing et al., 2013). Lakeshore aeolian deposits are present in the northwestern Junggar Basin and Turfan‐Hami Basin (this study; Shen et al., 2020).…”

“…Uranium is a radioactive-lithophile metal which occurs in many geologic formations; including metamorphic, magmatic, and sedimenatry rocks (e.g., [1][2][3][4]). It is relatively high in some plants, water, soils, sediments, bitumens, coals, and fossil woods [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. This element is mined in some sandstones, comglomerates, shales, granites, pegmatites, alaskites, monzonites, limestones, carbonatites, syenites, pelites, soils, sediments, tuffs, metaschists, metacarbonates, and some acid volcanic rocks [4,[13][14][15][16][17][18].…”
