Constitutional Advancement of Growth Is Associated with Early Puberty in Girls

Abstract: Background: Constitutional advancement of growth (CAG) is the growth pattern of early growth acceleration that has been shown to be characteristic in girls with idiopathic precocious puberty (IPP). The aim of this study was to examine the growth pattern of girls with early puberty compared to girls with IPP. Methods: We studied the growth pattern, from birth to presentation, of 61 girls with early puberty, of 40 girls with IPP and of 100 healthy girls with normal pubertal onset that served as controls. Results… Show more

“…Most children with non-FTS show an advanced BA and can be labeled CAG. We have shown that their PAH is not different from that of children with FTS, confirming previous observations ( 1 , 31 ). In our opinion, BA assessment remains an important tool in the differential diagnosis of tall stature.…”

“…administration of gonadorelin 100 μg/m 2 –max 100 μg (Relefact LHRH ® , Ferring SAS)] associated with elevated basal E 2 ≥ 15 pg/mL and pubertal configuration of the internal genitalia on the pelvic ultrasound: maximum uterine length ≥35 mm, pear shaped (uterine/cervix width >1), ovaries ≥3 mL with the presence of stimulated follicles ≥6 mm in diameter). BA was advanced more than the expected difference in years between their height percentile and their TH percentile, as these girls did not follow the well-recognized pattern of constitutional advancement of growth and puberty (CAG) [ 25 ]. Girls in Center-B were offered inhibition of puberty with leuprorelin and those in Center-A inhibition of puberty with leuprorelin combined to the AI anastrozole.…”

“…It is worth adding that, among girls experiencing idiopathic precocious puberty, the pattern of constitutional advancement of growth is commonly observed [ 91 ]. It is associated with early puberty and marked by accelerated early-stage growth, peaking in the initial 2–4 years of life [ 92 ].…”
