Consistent Rheological Behavior of Formate Based Fluid for Drilling and Workover Operations

Abstract: Formate based fluids are environmentally friendly and biodegradable drilling fluids that are compatible and solid free, contributing to eliminate formation damage. In this regard, they find their application in drilling fluids, as well as in completion fluids. In this work, three potassium formate based fluids of different concentrations such as 40, 50, 60 % w/w and water-based fluid (WBF) are prepared with help of additives namely, calcium carbonate, xanthan gum and ethylene glycol. The consistent performance… Show more

“…potassium formate based fluid could be better suited for drilling, completion or workover applications. However, they conducted no experiments on the effect this concentration has on formation damage; they also ignored other types of fluids 26 . In 2022, Ahmed Khan et al, performed several core flood experiments on chloride based and ionic fluid based completion fluids by using Scioto sandstone core samples, but no experiments were conducted on organic based ones.…”
