With respect to training, a recent study suggested that 93% of older adults' family caregivers did not report receiving role-related training. 6 Acknowledging this distinction in formalized training is salient for patient care.We appreciate Stall and colleagues for providing additional context for our perspective piece. The literature presented in their letter underscores the complexity of caregiving relationships and the need for terminology that carefully represents this complexity. We are encouraged that our article has sparked discussion about the role of caregivers and the type of care they provide to patients in the home. We hope this dialogue will continue to engage researchers, physicians, caregivers, and patients in conversations about how to best describe caregivers and raise awareness about the important contributions that caregivers make to patient care.
