Considerations for reducing stray field of SMES magnets

Abstract

Ahsrracf-For design of A 1 MJ SMES magnet, conslderntions were givcn to reduce the strny ficld by vflrious shiclding niethods. Both active rnd passive shielding were taken into account For a single solenoid coil, nnd computations were cnrried out to compare tlic effects of shielding, the supccconductor volumcs and the overall magnet volumes.
