Climatic factors are the main drivers that change net primary productivity (NPP). We chose the Yiluo River Basin as the study area to investigate the response of NPP to climatic factors in the Yellow River’s middle reaches. The temporal and spatial distribution of net primary productivity and the trend change of slope in the basin from 2000 to 2020 are analyzed. In addition, we analyzed the correlation between the NPP and climatic factors (precipitation and temperature) and the time-lag effect. The results show that 1) the annual average NPP in the basin is 556.4 gC/m2/a, the maximum value that occurred in 2019. Most of the NPP’s mutation points in the basin’s forest appeared in 2004, while the NPP’s mutation points in arable land mostly appeared in 2008 and 2009. 2) The slope trend analysis result of NPP from 2000 to 2020 shows that the NPP in 67.88% of the basin shows a significant increasing trend, 3.8% of the basin shows a significant decrease, and the other area show no significant change. 3) The correlation analysis between NPP and climatic factors shows a positive correlation between precipitation and NPP in 62.3% of the basin and a positive correlation between air temperature and NPP in 62.5%. The response of NPP to precipitation and temperature in the basin has different degrees of a time-lag effect. The NPP has a time-lag effect on precipitation in 44.8% of the basin, and its mean lag time is 8 days. NPP has a time-lag effect on temperature in 55.7% of the basin, and its mean lag time is 1 day. This study is beneficial to understanding the influence of climatic factor change on vegetation activities in the Yiluo River Basin. Our study illustrates the significance of time lag in analyzing the relationship between NPP and climatic factors. Furthermore, it provides support for scientific vegetation regulation and allocation, as well as adaptation to climate change in areas similar to the Loess Plateau, based on the lag time distribution corresponding to different vegetation types in different regions of the Yiluo River Basin. After that, these areas’ water resources will be fully utilized by vegetation, and ecological restoration could be accelerated.

Mechanical Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of Nano-Stabilized Soil under Uniaxial Compression

The stress–strain constitutive model under uniaxial compression is a basic element and important characterization method for determining physical and mechanical properties in cement-based materials research. In this study, a stress–strain constitutive model under uniaxial compression was established, which was based on a new nano-stabilized soil (NSS) through typical mechanical tests and constitutive relationship research. The results indicate that the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of the nano-stabilized soil was enhanced with the increase in curing period and nano-stabilizer dosage, and that the strength growth rate reaches the maximum at a 12% dosage in the tested samples. The UCS of NSS under a 12% dosage is about 10~15% higher than that of ordinary stabilized soil (SS) without nano doping, and 25~40% higher compared with grade 42.5 cement-soil. The established constitutive model could accurately describe the linear-elastic and elastic-plastic deformation characteristics of NSS under uniaxial compression, which will be conducive to revealing the curve variation law of the stress–strain process. The research results could provide scientific support for the theoretical innovation and engineering application of green environmental protection materials.

Evaluation of Multiple Forest Service Based on the Integration of Stand Structural Attributes in Mixed Oak Forests

In order to understand forest services at stand level through the integration of structural attributes, forest structures in three main stand types were analyzed based on various structural attributes relating to the services of habitat conservation, timber production and soil water conservation in Loess Plateau, China. Forty sample plots with similar site and environment conditions were established in three types of oak stands. Twenty-two indexes such as stand density, mean DBH, mean height, etc., were selected to analyze the relationship between structural attributes and forest service. With a core set of structural attributes selected by principal component analysis, the link between the service and structural attributes and the compatibility between each service was analyzed using correlation analysis. The results show that the oak–broadleaf mixed forest has the highest structural complexity index (SCI), indicating the best habitat conservation among others, while the oak–pine mixed forest and pure oak forest have the highest timber value in different scenarios of timber price, indicating the largest potential for timber production. Little differences were found between stand types regarding the indicators for soil water conservation. The structural attributes that had a positive correlation with habitat conservation (e.g., number of shrub species, species richness of canopy layer, the proportion of broadleaves and snag density) were identified to be negative for timber production; while the attributes that had a positive correlation with timber production (e.g., stand density and proportion of pine and oaks) were found to be negative for habitat conservation. The results of the trade-off analysis showed that timber production tends to be conflicting with the other two non-timber forest services. In order to enhance the provisioning of multiple services, it was suggested to implement the interventions that could balance these services, such as structural retention and single-tree selective logging. This study could contribute to the theoretical base for the decision making in the multi-purpose sustainable management of oak forests in China.
