Show more

“…The large amount of medium-rise and tall buildings built and being built in this zone makes it necessary to carefully review and modernize current Mexican seismic design procedures. Particularly, recent studies suggest that the seismic performance of structures located on the very soft soils of Mexico City can be strongly influenced by the structural damage and deterioration accumulated through several cycles of plastic deformation (Rodríguez y Ariztizabal 1999, Terán-Gilmore 2001, Huerta and Reinoso 2002, Bojórquez and Ruiz 2004, Arroyo and Ordaz 2007, Terán-Gilmore and Jirsa 2007).…”

“…However, there exists a stable, pseudoparabolic relationship between peak deformation and hysteretic energy. This was confirmed by numerical dynamic analyses of single degree of freedom (SDoF) systems subjected to ground motions 13–15 and quasi‐static, cyclic experimental tests on single members 16–19 . It is worth stressing that the above statement refers to the cumulative definition of hysteretic energy for dynamic actions, calculated over the force‐displacement time history (due to a given ground‐motion record).…”

“…There exists a stable, pseudoparabolic relationship between the peak global displacement (Δmax) and the hysteretic energy of a system, 13–15 herein called EH,MS for consistency with the subsequent sections. To qualitatively confirm this trend, an illustrative SDoF system is analyzed via an incremental dynamic analysis, IDA 23 .…”
