Conserved vector current test using low energy beta beams

Abstract: We discuss the possibility of testing the weak currents and, in particular, the weak magnetism term through the measurement of the νe + p → e + + n reaction at a low energy beta-beam facility. We analyze the sensitivity using both the total number of events and the angular distribution of the positrons emitted in a waterČerenkov detector. We show that the weak magnetism form factor might be determined with better than several percent accuracy using the angular distribution. This offers a new way of testing the… Show more

“…The idea of establishing a low energy beta-beam facility has been first proposed in [36]. Its potential has been discussed in [36,37,38] for nuclear structure studies, in [36,39] for core-collapse supernova physics, and in [40,8,41,42,43,44] for the study of fundamental interactions. (For a review on the low, medium and high energy scenarios as well as their physics potential see [45]).…”

“…The disposal of a devoted storage ring would probably be the ideal tool for low-energy neutrino physics [12]. The potential of such a facility has been stressed in several papers [9,13,14,16,17,18,19,20]. In Table I, we summarize the characteristics of the corresponding fluxes for the case of antineutrinos 1 resulting from the decay of γ = 7 and γ = 14 6 He ions.…”

“…From the practical point of view, the proposed idea presents several attractive features. First it would not require a devoted storage ring as discussed in previous works [9,12,13,16,17,18,19,20]. Second, specific beamtime would not be needed since one would exploit the neutrino beams planned for CP violation studies.…”
