“…Several authors have reported results of laryngeal preservation surgery for selected patients [1417]. Though these reports also include node-positive disease, and it would be difficult to compare the long-term efficacy and local control rate with our result, they seemed to obtain comparable local control rates.…”

“…Conservation surgery is rarely considered suitable for hypopharyngeal carcinoma, for oncological reasons and for patient-associated factors, such as, an inadequate pulmonary reserve or a postoperative swallowing disorder. Nevertheless, Plouin-Gaudon et al [7] reported 5-year overall and disease-specific survival rates of 50 and 65%, respectively, and successful laryngeal function preservation with local control in 80% of patients with selected pyriform sinus cancer. Pharyngolaryngeal reconstruction remains a surgical challenge.…”

“…More extensive pyriform lesions are resectable, sparing the larynx, provided that reconstruction was achieved using free flaps . We report the long‐term results of 2 surgical techniques performed in a selected series of patients with pyriform sinus carcinoma with, as main objective, locoregional control and functional laryngeal preservation.…”
