Consequences of solvent ignition during a drum filling operation

Abstract: This paper describes an incident in a pilot plant designed to make specialty chemical products based on oxime chemistry. The requirements of the process include handling fairly large amounts of flammable liquids. With this in mind the plant was built within an existing building and was provided with a properly designed sprinkler system, an adequate drainage system, ventilation system, and electrical equipment appropriate to the occupancy.
